THREE PET FOOD COMPANY PRODUCT RECALLS

Wysong is the third pet food maker this fall to pull some of its products off the market, recalling five batches of Canine Diets Maintenance and Senior dry dog food -- manufactured in June and July 2009 -- because the products contain Penicillium and Fusarium mold. Wysong notified its distributors, the FDA also posted a recall notice on its Web site,  <http://www.wysong.net/dry-dog-food.php>

In early October, Diamond Pet Foods removed some of its Premium Edge Finicky Adult and Hairball cat food off the market because of deficiencies in  thiamine levels.  <http://www.premiumedgepetfood.com/promotions/66/>

Nutro Products recalled three types of its puppy food because of a production error.  <http://www.nutroproducts.com/>
According to reporter Lisa Wade McCormick (ConsumerAffairs.com) the company voluntarily withdrew the puppy food after it had discovered pieces of melted plastic in the "production line of select varieties of NUTRO dry dog and cat food products." ( In May 2009 Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of their dry cat foods in the United States and ten additional countries due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.)
