Question:
You recently published a letter in which the writer mentioned Revolution flea control. I felt compelled to write because I had a very bad experience with this. The problem did not concern my dog, but me!
This product was put on my dog at the veterinarian's office. After I was home a little while, I began to itch all over. I was, of course, checking out my detergent, body soap, etc. The next day, I picked up my dog, nuzzled her with my cheek and kissed the top of her head. My face broke out, my lips swelled, and I ended up in the doctor's office. It was well over a week before I was normal again. This product should be recalled.

Answer:
The manufacturers of these kinds of anti-flea drugs that are applied to the pet's skin will say that the Revolution was not properly administered or that you have a unique skin sensitivity. Cats and dogs who often have serious adverse reactions are similarly dismissed as rare instances or unique sensitivities. But cases like yours are like canaries in a coal mine, warning us that these drugs can affect the immune system, allergic reactions being the obvious clue. This raises the serious question of health risks to animals being repeatedly treated for flea prevention. Damage to internal organs, thyroid and brain cannot be ruled out.
