Question:
What can I do or use to deter my 5-year-old male Siamese cat from biting through my oxygen-delivery tubing? He also licks the backs of photos, cellophane and sateen ribbons. Would this be a diet problem?.

Answer:
Chewing all manner of things goes with the breed. Give your Siamese cat pieces of rubber tubing to chew and play with. They're safer than plastic.Soft plastics (including food-wrapping, cellophane and photos) are attractive to some cats because stearates (chemicals derived from tallow or animal fat) are in these and other manufactured materials, including dollar bills.Protect your oxygen-delivery tubing in a wide-bore plastic or polyurethane tube. Coat it with white vinegar or any bitter solution -- jalapeno juice is great -- for a few days to deter your cat. This also works for many cats that chew telephone cords.
