Question:
I am 77 years old and take a daily baby aspirin as a preventive for cardiovascular disease, cancer and perhaps other diseases. Should I feed a daily aspirin to my 11-year-old female Lab? She is of an age equivalent to mine and shows signs of slowing down, but no arthritis or any other disease except a profusion of noncancerous warts.

Dogs (and especially cats) can have adverse reactions to even small doses of aspirin, stomach ulcers being the most common.So I do not advise giving dogs aspirin on a regular basis -- only short-term, low-dose, buffered or enteric-coated, with food, for immediate relief of acute inflammation.Your old dog needs a soft, thick mat or bed on the floor. Regular massage (as per my book "The Healing Touch for Dogs," Newmarket, 2004) will do wonders for her old bones, sore joints and poor circulation.
