Question:
We have a problem with our loving cat, Sugar (aka Booger). She's determined to jump up onto the kitchen counter. Balloons used to scare her, but as time has gone by, she's gotten used to them, so I've started sprinkling chili powder on several items she might be inclined to lick. Sugar eats what she wants without any problems. Do you have any suggestions?.

Answer:
Cats like to jump up on countertops, dressers and other furniture so they can look down on the world. Get her a carpeted cat condo from a pet store, or have a handyman fix a tree branch with a couple of carpeted shelves in the corner of one of your rooms. Cats enjoy climbing high up, so having her own tree or condo will help keep her off your counters. One deterrent is to purchase a few mousetraps. Set them on the counter and cover them with several layers of newspaper. The traps will snap and scare her when she jumps up, but they will not harm her.
