Question:
You asked for information on alternative treatments from your readers, so here are mine.My cocker spaniel Bourbon had the right side of his face paralyzed after he received a behind-the-neck flea prevention injection. I took him to the animal hospital and had the veterinarian give him several acupuncture treatments. His face returned to normal and he never got another flea treatment (carpet sprays and eucalyptus liquid soap took care of the flea problem).Bourbon was diagnosed with Fanconis syndrome (sugar in the kidneys). A veterinary college told me that it was incurable. I started giving him daily doses (1 ounce) of Flor-Essence herbal drink (an immune system cleanser/strengthener) mixed with chicken broth; within a year, he was completely cured. My daughter told a friend of hers about Flor-Essence and she started giving it to her dog, who has diabetes. It has helped keep the disease in check.

Answer:
Some holistic veterinarians (and human doctors) have used Flor-Essence (also known as Essiac) for various health problems, especially cancer. Essiac was developed by the Native-American Ojibwa (Chippewa) tribe. Ingredients include burdock, slippery elm, sheep sorrel and Turkish rhubarb.I would like to hear from other readers and healers who have used this herbal remedy. The use of safe, effective and low-cost medicines that have no significant environmental impact when excreted in urine and feces (as alternatives to increasingly costly and potentially hazardous conventional drugs) is a booming market. But without sound clinical studies, more harm than good may be done, and opportunities to identify effective herbal and other medicines may be missed.
