Question:
I am concerned about my cat. He yowls, moans and makes the most ungodly noises when I leave the house or as I'm coming home. I have to leave him outside on the porch for fear that he may be disturbing the neighbors when I'm gone. I wonder, does he cry all day long or just when he knows that I've come home? Will I have to get another cat to keep him company? As soon as I get home I give him attention, but some nights I am too drained. I don't know what else to do.

Answer:
Your cat is suffering from separation anxiety and loneliness. The best remedy is to get him a companion kitten. Cats who have the company of one or more of their kind are generally healthier and happier than those who live alone and spend most days without anyone else in the house.Send your questions to Dr. Fox in care of this newspaper.
